Predictive Projects
Plan-driven or predictive projects, as the name suggests is predictable, and thus follows a plan. Changes are discouraged, and when necessary are tightly controlled with the main aim to be ‘sticking to the plan’. The benefits of a predictive project is the certainty around cost and schedule.
Agile Projects
Agile methodologies deliver from the very first sprint. Agile (unlike predictive methodologies) embrace change. It seeks to integrate change and learnings into a project for the benefit of the customer and the project as early as possible. This is great for outcomes, but less great for the predictability of schedule/timing, quality and cost metrics
Hybrid Projects
Hybrid project management looks to the benefits of each lifecycle and adapts to use the most appropriate lifecycle for different phases of the project. For example, a hybrid lifecycle project might use an overall predictive lifecycle with a few agile iterations upfront involving some early design or research work that forms the basis of the projects’ purpose.
